My work is informed by the inherent qualities of clay and finding processes which allow these qualities to come to the forefront of what I’m making. I’m interested in Geology; how natural forms occur like stalagmites or rock formations and how I can take these processes and use them to create my own ceramic forms.
I use extruding which is a controlled and mechanical process that uses pressure to force clay through a predetermined template. In contrast to this the outcome I achieve is a textured and fluid form, both qualities often seen throughout my work.
I work by producing a series of objects and to ensure cohesion between these objects I keep the shape, form and colour consistent. By doing this I find that there is a more obvious interaction within the work. Working in multiples is an aesthetic choice but this is also to exaggerate, to show how versatile clay is and how a repeat process can produce unique and individual objects.
